Key to the 1820 census:
Free white males: Each digit of the 6 digit number represents an age group.
First digit = under 10 years of age
Second digit = of 10 and under 16 years of age
Third digit = 16 to 18 years of age
Fourth digit = of 16 and under 26 years of age
Fifth digit = of 26 and under 45 years of age
Sixth digit = of 45 years of age and up
Free white females: Each digit of the 5 digit number represents an age group.
First digit = under 10 years of age
Second digit = of 10 and under 16 years of age
Third digit = of 16 and under 26 years of age
Fourth digit = of 26 and under 45 years of age
Fifth digit = of 45 years of age and up

Agr = agriculture. Com = Commerce. Man = manufacturing.
