This is a list of 5800 Irish, sorted by Surname, who emigrated essentially before the
famine, some as early as the 1760's, to the United States and Canada (British North
America).
It is a compilation of extractions from passenger lists from sources found in
the Libraries of the Family History Centers, the U.S. National Archives, and other
genealogical libraries. It contains the names, dates, ship's names, ports of
embarkation and arrival, and anything else contained in the original records.
While it can be found elsewhere on the Internet and even for sale, the IGSI has
sorted it and Indexed it by both Surname and by the Ships travelled for your ease
of use.
This is only a tiny portion of the millions of Irish who emigrated in the 18th, 19th
and 20th centuries. The database is intended merely as a signpost for searching by
computer, as opposed to scanning paper documents. You would be well advised to rent
the Passenger List Film from the LDS, the National Archives, the AGLL or other sources
and get the actual list to verify names, ages, homes, etc. Often there is more material
on the Passenger List than appears in the indexed lists commonly available
