1820 Alexander County, Illinois Census

While transcribing this census, I have very diligently tried to decipher every name and statistic correctly. However, we all know there will be errors. Please feel free to let me know if I have made an error. I welcome your corrections.

Notes about the 1820 census: The government wanted to know how many young men were between the ages of 16 and 18 for military reasons. Therefore, you will find each young man between the age of 16 and 18 was enumerated twice. One time in the column "16-18 years of age" and one time in the column "16-26. Remember this when trying to place family members in families.

Another item of interest in the 1820 census is the occupation column. This column gives the number of people in each occupation: Agriculture, Commerce or Manufacturing.

"Foreigners not naturalized" If this column is marked, someone in the household is an immigrant who has not become a citizen of the U.S.
