ALLEGED WIFE-BEATER ARRESTED

Last evening a courier ran into the jail and notified the officers that a man was beating his wife in a shocking manner in a house at the corner of Jefferson and Jackson streets.  Deputy Charles CRUSH went in hot haste to the place designated and arrested James HANLON on the charge of assault and battery.  The prisoner was released on a $500 bond, which he readily obtained.  The deputies say the victim furnished ample evidence judging from her appearance that she had been roughly handled.

COUNTY COURT

Judge BOWER convened court at 9 o'clock this morning but adjourned until 1:30 p. m. to accommodate the attorneys, who had business in Judge TUCKER'S court where the civil non-jury docket was called and the assignment of cases made.

Judge BOWER is calling the civil docket and making an assignment of cases for the term in his court this afternoon.
